INTERN/VOLUNTEER
Health Foundation Nepal (HFN) is a charity and not-for-profit organization registered both in the USA and Nepal. With the aim of promoting health of Nepali people, HFN has been working in different communities of Nepal since the establishment in 2013. The working principles of HFN include equity, social justice, community participation, inter-sectoral coordination and use of appropriate technology. HFN has been implementing focused interventions on under five child nutrition, women of reproductive age (WRA), pregnant and lactating mothers, people suffered and affected by mental health problems and non-communicable diseases (NCDs), digital and health literacy for public school students and teachers. HFN has been working closely with Government of Nepal (GoN) and partnering with local NGOs to work on to work on different health issues in Nepal.
The key objectives of HFN include ensure accessibility and availability of quality health care services to individuals of all age group; provide practical solutions – which are based on scientific evidences, on health and education to promote health and well-being of the community people and generate evidences to inform public health programs and policies, with special focus on existing and emerging public health problems. HFN has adopted public private NGO partnership (PPNP), multi-sectoral and community centered approaches. All the programs initiated by HFN are comprehensive, community based and multisectoral in nature. These programs can also be venue for comprehensive public health practicum or global health internship for interns not only in Nepal but also globally. HFN would like to welcome individuals who would like to do internship in our programs. We hope such internship will foster innovations and advance our work. At the same time, we also believe such internship can advance the intern’s learning and can be a milestone in their career.
The four main objectives of this internship program are:
1) To gain experience on the subject matter via organizational and community based learning.
2) To participate in the activities of the host organization so as to acquire skills to manage and administer public health projects.
3) To volunteer in program activities and assist in project activities.
4) To provide feedback to improve HFN activities and resource generation to sustain projects.
HFN will provide mentorship to the interns. We seek interns to have a good observation skills and learning attitude. We expect interns to be self-motivated and generally are observant and self- motivated to learn. Interns should respect organization’s ethics, privacy and confidentiality of clients, and demonstrate high professionalism. A positive attitude and team work is must. Internship Fee
International interns/volunteers: $50 processing fee and actual expenses (based on station of internship) for food and accommodation.
National/Local interns/volunteers: HFN will not charge internship fee to students/candidates from local universities or institutions in Nepal.

- Analyze data from mental health screening projects and prepare an article or report

- Assist in teaching students on basics and advanced course on computer
- Develop and improve computer training manual for children and school teachers
- Document best practices and prepare shareable reports
Health Information Technology Project
Sites: Dang and Kathmandu, Nepal

Key activities
- Assess and identify resource needed to establish and improve different aspects of health information technology and assist in building/ upgrading programs and services
- Assess readiness/ knowledge of staff and personnel to use new computer/internet/ mobile technology on health and train them on its usage
Nutrition, Maternal and Child Health Project

- Identify social/cultural factors causing malnutrition, assess effectiveness of current nutritional intervention and identify challenges
- Analyze data from nutrition, maternal and child health projects and prepare an article or report
- Design and run school health/health literacy projects

- Identify risk factors of NCD cases
- Assess effectiveness of current community based programs and intervention and identify challenges
- Analyze data from NCD projects and prepare an article or report
Primary Health Care Clinic

- Observe, study and understand healthcare delivery in PHC setting and identify barriers and challenges
