Nutrition Project

Need Assessment and Capacity Building of Health Volunteers on  Postpartum Family Planning : (November 2020 to January 2021)

Health education and Counseling to women or couples on family planning (FP) has a crucial role to contribute to the success of FP programs by increasing the acceptance and use of FP methods. Globally, there has been increasing recognition of the importance of providing contraceptive services to women immediately after birth.  Health Foundation Nepal (HFN) has been continuously providing community based Maternal and Child Health (MCH) and Nutrition services in selected communities of Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City, Dang. HFN has been working closely with FCHVs to perform various activities since its establishment. In this context, a very essential and doable project named “Need assessment and Capacity Building of Health Volunteers on Postpartum Family Planning (PPFP)” was implemented from November 2020 to January 2021 in different places of Ghorahi Sub metropolitan city of Dang with constant guidance, supervision, motivation and support from expert(s) and staff working at Health Foundation Nepal.

The third phase of home based nutritional rehabilitation program was started in April 2017. HFN health team in Dang is organizing periodic nutritional and health camps in all the project communities to identify under 5 children with malnutrition. Once we identify children with malnutrition we enroll them in community based rehabilitation program. We provide child and family with Super flour, milk and egg based supplemental nutrition and periodically monitor children's growth.

The second phase of home based nutritional rehabilitation program concluded in April 2017. We treated 37 severely malnourished and 42 moderately malnourished children through our innovative home based nutritional rehabilitation project. Before enrolling the children in our rehabilitation program, our local health team completed screening health camps in all the 19 wards of the project communities and screened all the children under the age of 5 and also the pregnant mothers.

The first phase of the home based nutritional rehabilitation project was concluded in January 2016. We treated 56 children with severe malnutrition in our home based nutritional rehabilitation program. Before launching this program, we conducted comprehensive nutrition camps in all wards of Saudiyar and Laxmipur VDCs, and screened all under-5 children in the communities.
