Non-communicable Disease Project |
Milestones
2017 - Initiated cardiovascular and kidney diseases screening camps in Dang; collaborated with National Reference Laboratory 2018 - Developed research tools and clinical protocols for management of diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and tobacco cessation; Received Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval from Nepal Health Research Council 2019 - Collaborated with Karma Health, a local non-profit organization, to assist in effective implementation of the NCD project. We have already provided first round of care/screening for 936 individuals, of which 331 received 2nd round of care/follow up (updated on April 23, 2019). Future directions We are actively looking for collaboration locally, nationally and internationally. Some of these include partnership with medical, nursing, public health and allied health schools, their students and professionals to foster medical education and research; collaboration with industry partners to create a comprehensive and reliable database including biomarkers and imaging; and collaboration with international academic institutions, among others. In the future, we will also test other novel strategies to address NCDs. We will deploy trained community health workers as first line intervention to deliver home-based services in prevention and early management of NCDs. We will also look forward to expand NCD program to different geographic locations of Nepal. Opportunities If you have any interest in our work, we encourage you to collaborate and work with us for mutual opportunities that will benefit both you and the community we serve.
